These Papers are Dino-Mite!

When I got these Bazzill Dino-Mite papers I knew the exact photos I would use.  I just happened to have a great shot of my little guy on a giant dino at the Acton Discovery Museum.  Even the colors were right... talk about serendipity!


I also made use of this month's inspiration sketch, but turned it on its side:


I added some stitching between the lines the squares made.  I liked the pop of orange and the extra detail it added:


I followed the "rule of three", as illustrated by the sketch, by placing my embellishments in a triangle formation.  Instead of flowers I used dinosaurs cut with my Silhouette:


My title is two sizes of Maya Road chipboard letters that I used paint daubers on... oh man, do I love these alphas!


And yes, the title is cheesy but come on! This photo just begged for it! 

And if you're not as lucky as I was with the perfect dinosaur photos the B-sides of these papers are perfectly un-themed for all kinds of great pages.  Thanks for taking a peek!

Artist Trading Cards Inspiration

Earlier this month Kathy posted some artist trading card samples from the Right at Home design team that were amazing. I’m here today to post some more ATC  inspiration.

The ATC size of 2.5x3.5 inches is a perfect mini-canvas to express your inner artist. I think the beauty of them is that they are a snapshot in time of what you are thinking or feeling at the moment and can be swapped with friends or be part of your personal collection. They can be made out of absolutely anything with the only rule being that the size is always the same.

The January Sketch - my take

Hi everyone!  Jess here today with my take on the January sketch.  This was a really fun and simple design and it reminded me how easy sketches make scrapbooking.

And I could NOT love this October Afternoon Farmhouse line more than I do.  It is one of my favorite lines on the market right now... such great colors and textures!

You can see that I changed a few things to suit my photos and my style.  The largest photo is horizontal and I moved my title below it instead of above.  Instead of the line of embellishments at the top I used the banner pattern.  And I added a border and a few more embellishments than the sketch called for.  But the general design is clearly visible. 

Stitching, twine, and some buttons all added necessary depth and interest to my page, as well as some pop dots for dimension.  I "whitewashed" the wood letters to give them that rustic farm look. 

Give this sketch a whirl!  I can't tell you how refreshing it is to scrap this way!

Take a Journey with Authentique

Hi everyone... Jess here to show you a little taste of Journey by Authentique!

Authentique is a new company that debuted at this past summer CHA show with beautiful textured papers and coordinating embellishments ranging from tiny word stickers to large title blocks.  You're just going to love the colors!

Here's a peek at Journey, which is primarily blue with shades of gray, white, and brown.  I couldn't have asked for better papers to coordinate with this photo of my son in his fleece jammies:

The Little Things

Lisa gave me a little challenge this month and asked me to play with some Tim Holtz grunge paper.  You see that little embellishment pocket to the right of my photo?  Yep, that's grunge paper!  It is really soft and flexible and almost feels like leather but it takes stains and mists beautifully.  Check out my tutorial video to find out how I created this pocket.

 

I actually used the pocket to hide my journaling on a little tabbed card. 

The rest of my page is embellished with details that coordinated with the Journey line: brown stitching, some Pink Paislee brads, and LOTS of Authentique die cuts!

You can see that I really layered a lot of the little die cuts in several places on this page.  As a grouped cluster they have a bigger impact than they would alone. I used foam tape to elevate some and pop them even more.
