Cool in the Pool

Hi Everyone,

I'm back with another layout using the extremely fun Splash collection from Echo Park.  This is the absolute perfect line for all of your beach and pool pictures!  We just spent a very warm week in Florida... with temperatures averaging between 95 and 100 degrees every day!  To keep cool, we spend most of our time in my in-law's pool... which of course I took full photographic advantage of!

 

I cut out the banner pieces from the Borders paper and added some black cording with my Tiny Attacher.   I also used the MFT Sun and Flat bottomed clouds Die-namics.
 
 

To make the water stand out more, I cut a matching piece and popped it up with foam tape.  I covered the edge of the waves and made some fish air bubbles with Liquid Pearls.

Classes this weekend...

We have some great classes coming up this weekend...Kathie is back with a new Elizabeth Crafts Ornament Class...working with clear ornaments this time around, so pretty.  We also have a few specialty Copic classes on the schedule for Saturday...Red Marker Technique and Copic Photo Coloring for Holiday Photos. 

All three classes on Saturday keep our Christmas in July series of classes going stong.  Take a peek to the right at all the classes and give us a call if you can join us!

More Dots and Stripes

Hey everyone! Jess here.  I am back today with another couple of pages using the fabulously versatile Metropolitan collection from Echo Park. 

Today's pages are pretty darn different from each other and they really illustrate how Dots and Stripes can produce two very unique vibes.  I chose two different color palettes.

With my first page I also took on Frances' challenge to use:

• cardstock background
• one 6x12 strip
• two 2x12 strips
• two 1x12 strips
• one 6x6 square
• ribbon, buttons, and a few embellishments

Meltdown


I used the more bright, playful colors of Dots and Stripes on this layout of my son juuuussssst before that moment of meltdown at Target.  You know you've been there too!  Luckily these moments are few and far between for us and I just happened to have my camera on hand to capture this one! 

Dots and stripes are always perfect for a boy page and this line is great for layering.  You can see I used the challenge strips to form a background for my photo.  The challenge was fun! The "recipe" made the page come together super fast!

I especially loved working with the little flag pennants in the line.  They are pretty trendy right now and have so many uses!  I added the buttons from the challenge right on top here.

Chevrons are BIG right now!  I knew I wanted to use the other colors from this line for this second page and got a whim to create the gray and teal chevron background.  Don't ask me how long it took me to do this!  :-/ I went for the simple look on this page and chose a black and white photo to compliment the neutral colors on this page. 



I layered all kinds of fun Dots and Stripes goodies on the title area: journal strip stickers, banners, mini alphas, and of course the large black alphas for the title itself.  A row of stitching unifies the title area.



I used more of the banners on this page.  And more cute buttons plus foam tape for a little dimension.  Small details like these can really make a simple design pop.

Story Time with Daddy!

A few weeks ago, Frances posted a scrapbook challenge to use a select few items in making a layout.  The challenge was to use:

• cardstock background
• one 6x12 strip
• two 2x12 strips
• two 1x12 strips
• one 6x6 square
• ribbon, buttons, and a few embellishments

I found it interesting to take this list and create my Story time with Daddy layout. Typically, I grab a few photographs, then my product, and sit down to scrap.  But this time, I started out with my baseline layout first...  I used the remaining pieces of my latest Echo Park's Dots & Stripes CANDY SHOPPE purchase and cut them into the sizes listed above. Having two sided dot and stripe paper left me an option for many possibilities.  I arranged, rearranged, and finally settled down with my background.  Then, I sorted through my pictures and found some I thought coordinated. Once adhered, I embellished with some alpha stickers, pen stitching, some string, metal embellies, and a little handmade book.

Although this is different from my typical scrapping pattern, I found it fun and enlighting.  Over the coming weeks, I look forward to seeing how everyone uses the same basic ingredients to create unique layouts of their own. Thanks for the challenge Frances.  Its just what I needed to kick-start my summer scrapping!

Unity Stamps Meets MFT Die-namics!

Hello Friends! It's Kimberly here!  I have a little project and some cards to share with you. This month, I used some wonderful papers from Jillibean Soup and this fun set called Sweet Celebration Birthday from Unity Stamp Company. I also used lots of Die-namics from My Favorite Things. My first little project is a birthday bag. You can find the directions for this bag right here on Splitcoaststampers. For the bottom of the bag, I used the MFT Die-namics Double Scallop Border die. This wonderful cake is colored up with Copic Markers (R29, RV11, Y11, and YR12) and then layered onto a die cut shape made with the MFT Die-namics Textile Rectangle die. This card card uses this sweet little cupcake found in the Unity set and some more Jillibean Soup papers. I also used some Kraft card stock and some wonderful cream colored seam binding. Lisa has some at the store and it is just heavenly to work with! My little tag was made with the new MFT Die-namics Notched Tag die. This was a great way to add the sentiment to the card. Earlier this month, I posted a little sewing tutorial and showed a finished flowered panel. I actually made two panels. I used the smaller one on this card and the larger panel on the card below. I paper pieced this giant cupcake and watercolored the icing. The layout comes from an older sketch from the My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club. I added lots MFT Die-namics to this card too. This time around, I used the Dizzy Doily Die-namics and the Little Open Scallop Strip Die-namics. Again, I added the Notched Tag die with some Baker's Twine and I used the sweet little heart and sentiment that comes along with the set. My last card uses a sentiment from the same Unity set and some more Jillibean Soup papers. This layout is also an older MFT sketch from the My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club. I had a ball with some more MFT Die-namics on this card too. For this one, I used the Die-namics Layered Label Die, the Die-namics Simply Scallops die, and the blossom was made with the Die-namics Pretty Posies die. I added a little button to the center with a piece of craft thread to finish this one off. Thank you so much for taking time to visit with me today. Kissed by a Fish!

Well, ok, not technically a fish, I guess that sea lions are mammals, but I couldn't resist the title!  Back in April, we went to the Florida Keys where we were lucky enough to get to swim with a sea lion.  Her name was Mimi, and she was extremely smart and sweet!  The pictures we got were so much fun and Echo Park's Splash line was the perfect compliment to them!  Splash is full of great summery colors.. yellows, oranges, blues  and the patterned papers are perfect for your summer pictures.  I also fell in love with the sticker sheets.. the alphas are fun and the shape stickers are really cute!

 
For this layout, I took on Frances' July Challenge to use the following items in a layout... One 12"x6" paper, one 6"x6" paper, 2 strips 2"x 12", 2 strips 1"x12" and some ribbon, buttons and a few embellies. 

 I created my sun by using the Cat's Pajamas Easy Rosette Die.  This is definitely the simplest way to make a rosette... no scoring needed!

 
Instead of ribbon, I chose to use some fun twine from the Twinery, and I made the letters pop a bit by shadowing them with a black pen.  It was a fun layout to create, and the challenge really made it easy.  I'm looking forward to seeing some more challenge layouts from the team later this month! I'll be back at the end of the month with some more Splash!  Enjoy the nice weather, and don't forget your cameras!
